A Canadian man sentenced to life in prison for triple murder said he killed his two young girls, ages 7 and 8, because he didn’t want them to grow up knowing he’d killed their mother.
Clara Forman, 33, died when her husband, Jacob, 35, rose up during an argument over his drinking and hit her three times in the head with a sledgehammer on December 17, 2017, at the family’s home near Kelowna, British Columbia, according to the prosecutor and Forman’s confession read in court on Monday.

A Pennsylvania father fatally shot a woman and himself, also injuring the pair’s 11-month-old son who survived two gunshot wounds, police say.
According to investigators, a family member checking in on the couple arrived at their apartment Tuesday to find them dead.
Their son, Raquill Jr., was crawling around on the floor, PEOPLE confirms.
The child sustained two gunshot wounds: one to the torso and another to the leg, according to Sharon Hill police.

Hours after receiving the worst news imaginable for a parent, a Nebraska father learned that his daughter had survived a deadly crash.
Later that night he received a phone call from somebody who said they had helped pull his daughter from underneath a car, telling him that she was “in bad shape.”
“On the road, we cried, fell down on our knees, [and] prayed,” he told the outlet.
Although Hannah’s pelvis was crushed and she has a lengthy road to recovery ahead, her father said that he feels grateful his daughter is alive.
