An Arizona father is accused of murder after police say he beat a man who allegedly tried to enter his teenage daughter’s bathroom stall at a Phoenix gas station, PEOPLE confirms.
Phoenix police say the dad, 40-year-old Melvin Harris, had driven to pick up his daughter and her friends about 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 3 at a QuikTrip.
While Harris waited outside, a man approached him in his car and asked for money, which Harris obliged, police said.

Tyler Buchanan was charged with one count of capital murder, according toonline court records. The father is currently being held in the Crawford County Detention Center on a $1 million bond, jail officials confirm to PEOPLE.

In a dramatic case of helicopter parenting, the father of a high school football player wore a referee uniform in an alleged effort to help his son’s team win a game.
On Nov. 10, Nazareth Academy beat Simeon Career Academy 34–27 in a Class 7A state quarterfinal, according toSports Illustrated. Richard Mercado, whose son played for Nazareth, is an official for high school football, but he was not assigned to work at the game in question.

Michael Stephens, 42, and his daughter Isabella were visiting Pass-a-Grille Beach with a group of loved ones on Sunday, according to a press release from thePinellas County Sheriff’s Office(PCSO).
Detectives say the two were in the water with Michael’s 20-year-old daughter Brittany and her boyfriend Jessie Johnson, 20, when the outgoing rip current began to “strengthen,” per the PCSO’s release.
Johnson was able to help Brittany out of the water, but when he returned to help the others, he realized Michael and Isabella “were too far from shore,” the sheriff’s office said.

Baylee Holbrook died on Thursday morning, two days after a lightning bolt struck a tree and hit her and her dad,the Putnam County Sheriff’s Officesaid.
They said her father, Matthew Holbrook, “lost consciousness” and awoke to find Baylee “not breathing.”
“The father called 911 and began CPR as rescue personnel rushed to the scene,” authorities continued. “Deputies arrived first and took over life saving measures until rescue arrived and could transport the teen.
