Researchers captured rare footage of acritically endangered North Atlantic right whalebonding with her calf.
The organization’s footage shows the 41-year-old whale swimming beside her calf, who later dips below their mom to nurse.
It is uncommon to capture a North Atlantic right whale on film because the marine mammals are critically endangered, with only an estimated 340 North Atlantic right whales left in the wild, according tothe Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

The Sacramento Zoo has a new addition, and he is seriously adorable.
The Sacramento Zoo — which hasn’t seen an orangutan birth since 1981 — announced the exciting news on Facebook Monday. In its update, the park shared that mother and child are feeling good after the birth.

Wildlife biologists made a shocking discovery this month involving acritically endangered North Atlantic right whale.
According toThe Associated Press, on Thursday, researchers performing an aerial survey spotted a North Atlantic right whale dragging fishing rope tangled around its mouth swimming with a newborn calf in the waters outside Cumberland Island, Georgia.
This sighting confirmed that the mother whale — which scientists spotted entangled earlier this year but couldn’t free — gave birth to her calf while trapped in the rope.

The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA) announced on Friday that a critically endangered Przewalksi’s horse foal was born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
According to arelease from the nonprofit, the colt is the first of its kind to be born at the Safari Park since 2014 — and one of the few born in North America in the past year. The unnamed female foal wasborn on Christmas Day, according to NBC 7.
