Mounting scientific evidence suggests that being infected with SARS-CoV-2 — the virus that causes COVID — profoundly impacts brain health in many ways.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Scotti Petersen would havedone her job as a critical care nurse"for free."

But when COVID-19 arrived in the U.S. in February 2020, Petersen was one of the few people at her hospital that was trained to operate ECMO machines, which pumps a patient’s blood outside their body to give the heart and lungs a break, andbecame one of the few treatments for the virus.

A central Illinois summer camp was the source of a COVID-19 outbreak.
On Monday, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported that a summer youth camp led to at least 85 teens and several adult staff members to test positive for the virus after a mid-June session was held with minimal COVID protocols. One unvaccinated person was also hospitalized, according to apress release.
The state health department said attendees were not required to wear masks or be vaccinated, adding that only a handful of campers and staff were vaccinated despite all being eligible.
