College Baseball Player Dead at 20 After Complications from Tommy John Surgery

Photo: Gomason.com Sang Ho Baek, a college baseball pitcher who just completed his freshman season at George Mason University, has died. He was 20. Baek died Saturday, June 12, after suffering complications from ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction, otherwise known as Tommy John surgery, according to GMU’sathletic department. Born in Korea, the Salisbury, Maryland, resident previously played for James M. Bennett High School, where he helped the Clippers win the 2019 3A Maryland State Championship.

College Basketball Coach Resigns from Texas University After Being Linked to Admissions Scandal

A Texas basketball coach has resigned after being linked tothe national college admissions scandalthat also implicated numerous other athletic coaches and Hollywood celebrities includingLori LoughlinandFelicity Huffman. Lamont Smith was the assistant men’s basketball coach at the University of Texas at El Paso before he resigned. Previously, Smith had been the head men’s basketball coach at the University of San Diego, where he allegedly participated in the college admissions scheme. Smith left USD in March 2018.
