Jai’lyn Jones.Photo: FacebookA Maryland teenager was taken into custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of a classmate who was found dead in January in a creek in Germantown.Ta’Quawn Deon Henderson, 17, was charged with first-degree murder Monday in connection to the death of 17-year-old Jai’lyn Jones.Police said the two teens were acquaintances and attended Northwest High School.The school, in a statement, described Jones as having a “large personality, infectious smile, and amazing spirit,“FOX5reported.

The longtime person of interest in the disappearance ofKristin Smartwas briefly detained Wednesday morning before being released, multiple outlets report.
Smart, a freshman student atCalifornia Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, vanished in 1996 after attending an off-campus party.
Paul Flores, a classmate of Smart’s, was the last known person to see her alive. Floresvolunteered to walk the 19-year-old homein her inebriated state from the party, police have said.

Lester, 84, shot the 16-year-old after the teenknocked on his door in errorwhile looking to pick up his younger siblings at a friend’s address on Thursday.
On Tuesday, community members joined ina “unity walk"to voice their support for the high school junior as he begins onhis road to recovery.
“This display of unity is intended to support Ralph in his recovery and have a positive impact on the community,” Susan Hiland, a spokesperson for North Kansas City Public Schools,explained to KSBH.

Wanting to help, her North Star Charter School classmate Jerrod Newburn decided to organize a bake sale to raise funds for her family as she faces a long road.When asked how much he hoped to raise,Jerrod told CBS news station KBOI.

With flu season in full swing, two classroom educators wanted to show their students just how important it is to wash hands.
Teacher Dayna Robertson, 38, and behavior specialist Jaralee Metcalf, 23, supervised their special education students in conducting a month-long experiment intended to illustrate how germs from hands can spread.
Metcalf shared the moldy results on Facebook nearly two weeks ago, and her post has since gone viral, with 64,000 shares and 17,000 likes as of Wednesday.
