Cicadas Living Underground for Past 17 Years to Emerge in Parts of Eastern U.S. and Illinois This Summer

This brood of cicadas — dubbed Brood X or The Great Eastern Brood — is slated to tunnel their way to the surface in parts of Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Illinois once the ground temperature gets warmer, according to a cicada mapping site from theUniversity of Connecticut.

Cicely Tyson, Groundbreaking Screen and Broadway Actress, Dies at 96

Cicely Tyson,the legendary Tony Award and Emmy-winning actress, has died. She was 96. “I have managed Miss Tyson’s career for over 40 years, and each year was a privilege and blessing,” her manager, Larry Thompson, said in a statement Thursday. “Cicely thought of her new memoir as a Christmas tree decorated with all the ornaments of her personal and professional life. Today she placed the last ornament, a Star, on top of the tree.
