A doctor is warning people to steer clear of a TikTok trend that’s also popular in Hollywood circles which involves off-label use of prescription diabetes drugs for fast weight loss.
Novo Nordisk, the maker of Ozempic, makes several brand-name drugs containing semaglutide, including Wegovy, which is FDA-approved for weight loss in people with obesity.
Recently, Ozempic and Wegovy have started trending across social media after TikTok users learned a number of celebrities have used the drugs for weight loss, even though they don’t have diabetes or clinical obesity.

The Smiths and their daughter Summer wentviral on TikTokafter posting a video of the 3-year-old asking her doctor father about his job.
“And what – so tell me what bones did you fix?” she asks in the clip.
“So there was a patient with an ankle fracture,” her father answers her.

In the clip, the doctor entered the room wearing the inflatable outfit before giving his patient, who was wearing a festive tutu, a big hug.
The group then sings a special song for Kyla, ending with “pack up your bags, get out the door – you don’t get chemo anymore!”
Her doctor, a pediatric neuro-oncologist, tells PEOPLE his “biggest joy” was seeing Kyla’s smile when he entered the room.

Five months ago, Shirlee Xie, a doctor from Edina, Minn., and her husband, John Kriz, visited Switzerland for a hiking excursion in the mountains. It was the fourth time that the mother of two had visited the European country.
“We do one trip a year that’s adults-only, and it’s usually a big hiking trip,” Xie, 40, tells PEOPLE. “The kids are good hikers, but they can’t do it day after day.
