Democrats are calling on U.S. Rep.-electGeorge Santosto resign before he is sworn in next week, following the incoming lawmaker’s confirmation that he lied about several aspects of his past — including his education, career and religious background.
On Monday Santos, 34, toldThe New York Postthathe lied aboutworking at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, and confirmed that he had also embellished his education, noting that he did not attend Baruch College or New York University as he’d previously claimed.

The Democrats have officially elected Ken Martin to serve as thechair of the Democratic National Committee.Martin, 51,will replace outgoing chair Jaime Harrison. In an acceptance speech following his election on Saturday, Feb. 1, the new chair pledged his commitment to uniting and charting a new path forward for the Democratic Party.“The Democratic Party is the party of working people, and it’s time to roll up our sleeves and outcompete everywhere, in every election, and at every level of government — and I look forward to working with this next generation of leadership to build a Party to unite America,” he said, per a press release.

The Democratic Party has defended its Senate majority, securing control of Congress' upper chamber for at least two more years.
Though Republicans have long been expected to regain a majority in the House of Representatives this year, control of the Senate looked like it could swing either way, with Republicans appearing to have the slight advantage going into election night.
On Saturday, Nevada Sen.Catherine Cortez Masto— widely considered the most vulnerable Democratic senator on the ballot —won her reelection bid, handing the Democratic Party its 50th seat in the Senate and eliminating Republicans' only remaining path to the majority.

A group of House Democrats hope to pass a bill that would enact term limits for Supreme Court justices.
Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia introduced theSupreme Court Tenure Establishment and Retirement Modernization Act(or TERM Act), describing it as necessary to address a “legitimacy crisis” the court is “increasingly facing.”
The bill was introduced a month after theSupreme Court overturnedRoe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision of 1973 that granted women the right to an abortion in every state, in a 6-3 ruling thatprompted protestsaround the country.
