Auditioning for popular dance competition showSo You Think You Can Dancerequires a certain level of bravery, talent and commitment. For Lauren Luteran, though, just being able to dance requires much more strength and stamina than the average performer exhibits.
Luteran, 19, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis — a genetic disorder that causes lung infections — just five months after she was born. Doctors told her parents that putting her in some kind of sport or activity would help the mucus in her body break down.

When Phoebe Kochis first watched an episode ofSo You Think You Can Dance, she told her mom “I’m going to go on that show.”
Kochis, 19, has been a dancer for the past 16 years, and that dream began when she was just five. However, because she has Down syndrome, those dreams were often doubted.
“We were told when she was born not to get our hopes up and not to expect much,” Phoebe’s mother, Jeanie Kochis, tells PEOPLE.

A 22-year-old dancer from Vermont suffered life-threatening injuries — and underwent a double leg amputation — after the tour boat she and her family were on exploded during what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation in the Bahamas.

An FBI agent is under investigation after he accidentally shot a fellow patron at a Denver bar while attempting a flip — and video from the dancefloor has since gone viral.
The accident occurred after midnight on Saturday at Mile High Spirits Distillery and Tasting Bar when an off-duty FBI agent’s firearm dropped from his waistband holster, a Denver police spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE.
Denver police confirmed that the victim was an adult male who was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
