The 25-year-old safety,who suffered cardiac arrest during a Monday Night Football gamein January, is healthy and played in the three preseason games, but he likely won’t see time on Monday,ESPN,theNFL Networkand theAssociated Pressreport. The decision is not unexpected, ESPN said, due to the number of players a team can have on its active roster, and the fact that Hamlin is a backup safety and special teams contributor.

Damar Hamlinis now breathing on his own and able to speak, the Buffalo Bills announced Friday morning, justdays after he suffered cardiac arrest. Doctors removed Hamlin’s breathing tube overnight, the Billssaid on Twitter. “Per the physicians at UCMC, Damar’s breathing tube was removed overnight,” they said. “He continues to progress remarkably in his recovery.” The 24-year-old safety’s “neurologic function remains intact,” they added, “and he has been able to talk to his family and care team.
