The Grammy-winning EDM artist and DJPorter Robinson, known for headlining Coachella and the Second Sky festivals (and co-writing the song “Clarity” withZedd), is reinventing his sound.
On Wednesday, Robinson released the video for his new song “Cheerleader,” which is the first single off his upcoming album. It’s decidedly much more of a pop anthem with emo undertones than his usual electro house music.

In a statement, Robinson said, “When I got back in the studio for ‘Cheerleader’, I asked: what would be something that people could love with zero context — just instantaneous, universal, explosive connection? ‘Cheerleader’ is my take on bottling that feeling.”

The EDM prodigy first began producing beats when he was just 12 years old, posting music online and creating a sound he dubbed “complextro,” which layered classical melodies to his music.
‘Cheerleader’ is the first single off of Robinson’s full-length pop album, which will be announced later in the year.
