'Creature from the Black Lagoon' Icon Julie Adams Dies at 92

Iconic horror movie actress Julie Adams, who starred as Kay Lawrence inCreature from the Black Lagoon, has died. She was 92.

Adams died early Sunday morning in Los Angeles, her son Mitchell Dantonconfirmed toThe Hollywood Reporter.

She rose to fame as the woman who wore a white, one-piece bathing suit to take a dip in a lagoon in the 1954 film as the Gill-man beneath copied her every movie. The scene was often recreated in movies likeJawsandThe Shape of Water.

“I mourn Julie Adams passing,” the director of the latter, Guillermo del Toro, tweeted Monday. “It hurts in a place deep in me, where monsters swim.”

According to Adams’ website, while the actress will certainly live on in horror canon, she also made substantial contributions to the Western movie genre over her lifetime and worked with many big names, including Jimmy Stewart, Rock Hudson, Charlton Heston, Elvis Presley, John Wayne and more.
