With more than two million Twitter followers, freshman Democratic Rep.Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezgets numerous messages a day — and on Friday she added a very special invite to that bunch whenChrissy Teigenasked her to watch the Grammys together this weekend.
“Hello my hero,” Teigen, 33,tweetedat Ocasio-Cortez. “Do you wanna come over and watch the grammys with us? there will be pizza.”
Modern FamilystarJesse Tyler Fergusonquicklyseconded the invite, and Teigen chimed back in to say that Ferguson would also be attending. “Help me!!” shetweeted at him, joking, “Tell her [Ocasio-Cortez]we are normal.”
But the 29-year-old breakout lawmaker didn’t need much convincing. Within a few hours she responded to enthusiastically accept the invite.
“Yes!” shewrote backto Teigen. A nod to her future host’s foodie roots, she added, “We can live-tweet me burning something in the kitchen.”
Since upending political expectations last year when she unseated a longtime representative in her primary in New York City, Ocasio-Cortez has rocketed to national prominence — earning widespread plaudits as well as conservative ire for her unabashedly progressive policies.
Before sending Ocasio-Cortez the Grammys invite, Teigen retweeted Corden’s post.
And while Ocasio-Cortez and Teigen move in vastly different circles on opposite costs, they share a fluency with their own social media that has made them bothTwitter stars.
“I hear the GOP thinks women dancing are scandalous,” shetweeted. “Wait till they find out Congresswomen dance too!”
